This is the opening scene is from the movie Apocalypse Now. This scene shows how to artfully use dissolve cuts to make an elegant scene. The scene first starts a fade into a seemingly peaceful scene of trees. Slowly the music begins to kick in with the sound of helicopter blades (a helicopter flies in front of the shot to further solidify this assumption) in the background and a green mist growing within the shot. The scenery then begins to change suddenly and begins to fill with explosions, this shows audiences the true chaos of war and how destructive it can be. The camera then begins to slowly pan  to the right as the smog and smoke begins to thicken, this increase in smoke helps create a very effective transition for a dissolved transition of a man, presumably apart of the war that is commencing, having flashbacks of what he had seen during battle. After this first dissolve cut , most of the scenes that follow are dissolve cuts that are layered on top of each other, this wa

Audience theory 2

1) Social learning theory has been criticised for simplifying the causes of violence in society. Do you think the media is responsible for anti-social behaviour and violence? I don't believe that Media is responsible for anti-social behaviour and violence. Yes there are sometimes scenes or gratuitous violence in many forms of media, but there are regulations and limitations put in place to make sure that the media is shown to appropriate age groups if the parent, guardian or distributor of the media do not make sure that the media is given to the appropriate audience then the media cannot be held accountable. (an example of this would be if a child is given an R-rated movie to watch by his/her or guardian, it would be their fault to allow their impressionable child to watch the violent content)  2) How is social learning theory relevant in the digital age? Are young people now learning behaviour from social media and the internet? Give examples. With the rise of technology an

1) Read this  Mail Online article about the effects of videogames . How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model?  The article published by mail online (a media outlet apart of the daily mail) is heavily linked with the hypodermic needle theory mainly due to the fact that the article adds to the belief that video games are linked to aggression, the way the article has been written would suggest to parents that allowing their child to play such games could lead to them being aggressive when they're older 2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone  criticise  this front page?   The front page of the daily mail article around the talk talk hacking case is a perfect example of the hypodermic needle theory. On the front page of the Daily Mail (a right-wing media outlet) article, there were keywords used that suggest that they want to inject certain images and beliefs on cer

Assessment LO task

Feedback WWW: Some good analysis and application of theory EBI: Improve timing- not completing the genre question really threw you. Include theory/quotes. Individual  Question 1- I was not critical enough of each theory and I did not include Propp's character theory in my answer. Question 2- Not enough comparison of connotations Question 3- I did not have enough knowledge on this question Question 4- Require more judicious use of theoretical framework Examplar comparison Q1- write in more detail Q2- This student had more detailed connotations and denotations than me Q3- Talk about producers as well as consumers Q4- Include a conclusion. Strongest and weakest questions Strongest: Question 2- this may have been my strongest question because my answer was well structured and organised, and I used a vast amount of media knowledge and applied it onto the question. Weakest: Question 3- this was because I had gaps in media knowledge that was neede
