Magazines: Men's Health CSP analysis

1) Write a one-paragraph summary of your notes for each key concept from the booklet: Media Language  (e.g. conventions, narrative, genre etc.): The magazine uses typical conventions associated with magazines e.g. large bold cover lines designed to catch the attention of readers and a headmast  to show the reader which magazine they're reading and a main model in the center of the cover. Often aggressive wording is used to help attract a more masculine audience. They use multiple narratives to help promote their main ideology that physical and mental health is important, no matter the age, e.g. one example of this narrative would be the marathon man on the third page.  Media Industries  (e.g. Hearst Communications) Due to hearst communications being a large conglomerate with print, distribution and broadcasting, Hearst communications have far more opportunities and control over Men's Health and how it is distributed than their rivals such as esquire and GQ. 1) Add your finished magazine cover as a JPEG image. 2) Type up your feedback from your teacher. If you've received this by email, you can copy and paste it across - WWW and EBIs. WWW: Very creative and original  EBI: Not sure placing cover lines behind the cover image really works (cannot read the other EBI) 3) Consider your mark against the mark scheme above. What are the strengths of your production based on the the mark scheme? Think about magazine cover  conventions  and the media language techniques you have used to communicate with your audience (e.g. mise-en-scene, camera shot etc.) I believe that the main strength of my production is the meaning it's portraying through the vape (prop) I used; Also in comparison to the reference magazine cover, I believe the conventions are quite similar. 4) Look at the mark scheme again. What can you do to move your mark higher and, if required, move up a level?   I believe that I could have maybe included more conven

Magazines: Men's Health - Audience

Read the  Men's Health Media Pack  in full to get a good idea of the demographics and psychographics for the Men's Health target audience then answer the following questions: 1) How does the magazine introduce itself? Men's health introduces itself as the largest men's health magazine in the world due to the quality of its content. 2) What does the introduction suggest about the representation of masculinity in Men's Health's? Due to the positive introduction stating that men's health "is built on  a winning editorial formula which  combines visually-engaging health, wellbeing and  nutrition features with premium content covering  fashion, grooming, watches, tech and travel." I believe that men's health presents a typical idea of masculinty. 3) How do the print statistics for Men's Health compare to GQ and Esquire? Mens health has the highest print statistics in comparrison to GQ and Esquire, this includes having more readership, r

Planning Idea 1: Side view shot of vape, vape is multicoloured with a background of a different hue. Vape and wall are cut to form different layers. Idea 2: Same idea as above but with different hues and a front view shot. Idea 3: Front shot of my standing with scribble art outline and also different scribble art designs. Idea 2 is my preferred Idea as I believe it's more interesting. The shot will contain me (actor) in casual clothing with natural lighting from the right, the shot will also contain vape as a prop.  I would like to use this kind of framing with similar colours  This colour scheme with a psychedelic theme I enjoy the look of old music magazines, the look and lighting is something I want to mimic for my magazine. Planning 1) The idea is going to be around mental creativity and freedom 2) I will need a forward facing shot with vape covering my face, the shot will also have the smoke and the wall having di

Learner Response.

1) Type up your feedback in  full  (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential). WWW: Strong sense of critical anatomy - some good ideas EBI: Really misses the mark- no reference to one of the CSP's (Maybeline) and not enough on the other one either  2) Read the whole  mark scheme for this assessment  carefully. Identify at least  one  potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment. 3) On a scale of 1-10 (1 = low, 10 = high), how much revision and preparation did you do for this assessment? On a scale of 1-10 I believe I hit around a 7-8 4) Look at your answer and the mark scheme for  Question 1 . What aspect of technical  film language  (camerawork, mise-en-scene etc.) or  advertising persuasive techniques  do you need to revise to improve your response to this kind of question in future? I had missed a few points for question one e.g. the black-tie being a phallic object is something I did not pick up on,
