Media awards task

Click: The cinematography was very well shot and produced. Th usage of special effects like the gunshots added an effect of intensity, not only that but the actors dressing also added an effect of intensity during the actions scenes of the movie. Sound was used intelligently in the movie, it made the movie sound like a typical action movie which was very impressive to pull off Out of Mind: The acting in this movie was very convincing adding to the story-line and the emotional connection you have with the main character. The affect of the camera movement with the shots also added effects to make the video seem more emotional. The clothing along with the makeup made the man characters seem more human, adding to the effect that the main character is in a really bad situation. Euphoria: This movie was very unique in how it was filmed and in how it was set chronologically. The makeup and clothing style was very good, along with usage of special editing techniques. The audio was the st

Narrative

Image
1) Give an example from film or television that uses Todorov's narrative structure of equilibrium, disequilibrium and new equilibrium.   Answer) A movie that follows Todorov's narrative structure of equilibrium would be The Avengers. The world is in relative peace (equilibrium), Loki's appearance is the disequilibrium in the movie, he causes that peace to go and creates fear and stress. The ending where loki is defeated is the new equilibrium, although there is peace, the world is changed along with the heroes mentality.  2) Complete the activity on page 1 of the Factsheet: find a  clip  on YouTube of the opening of a new TV drama series (season 1, episode 1). Embed the clip in your blog and write an analysis of the narrative markers that help establish setting, character and plot. Answer) The opening begins with a police car driving down a very long road surrounded by greenery, this is a geographical marker that shows the viewer that the scene takes place in a country

Migrain: Genre Work

Genre 1) What example is provided of why visual iconographies are so important? The two examples given are Star Trek and Star Wars are used to demonstrate that although the movies share the same genre (Sci-fi) they use the genres iconography in a different way. Showing that movies within the same genre can use the same cliche's while still being different  2) What examples are provided of the importance of narrative in identifying genre? The examples provided are sit-coms and soap operas. It shows that the visible and audio effects are not the only ways to define a genre, the way the narrative is told can also define the genre. It demonstrates the power the telling of a narrative can have. 3) What is the difference between character representation in action movies and disaster movies? In action movies, the protagonist is often shown as a "lone wolf" to demonstrate that he/she is independent and works alone. However, in disaster movies, the protagonist

Reception Theory

Image
the image denotates to the viewers that Reebok only deals with the best of the best, and will make you as successful as 50 Cent. You can see that Reebok is trying to send a message to the viewers that they are as stylish and important as 50 Cent promoting the idea that rebook is still relevant. The negotiated meaning could be telling the viewers that you should not be ashamed of who you are that you should embrace who you are, this feeling is demonstrated with the wording "I am what I am". But the more oppositional reading would be that the text shows the viewers something that is close to typical stereotype to black American figures. This could be shown due to an image in the frame. The fingerprints, fingerprints are normally incorporated with crime and the fact that the fingerprints are a significant image in the frame, these two together may give the viewers the wrong interpretation.  The denotation of the image would be that nike is the company you need to use in

Semiotics: Icon, Index, Symbols

Image
Icons Index Symbols 2) Why are icons and indexes so important in media texts? Icons and Indexes are important in media because they provide a clear basic understanding of what they represent. E.g Instagrams logo, you can't look at it and say that it represents Snapchat.  3) Why might global brands try and avoid symbols in their advertising and marketing? Global brands may want to avoid using different symbols since different cultures around the world have different beliefs, morals and ethics. Even though the brand may want to spread a good message, it may be perceived differently. E.g If you go to an extremely conservative and religious country and begin to show different symbols from different religions within an advertise, the locals or the extremely religious may get annoyed and interpret it differently    4) Find an example of a media text (e.g. advert) where the producer

MIGRAIN: Reading an Image

Image
Within the frame  of the image, there is an image of 50 Cent, a well-known musical artist. At first glance, its  denotation is an advertisement for the company Reebok. The image has connotations of urbanisation, this is mainly due to 50 Cents' dressing. Within the frame, he is wearing urban camouflage clothing alongside a chain. 50 Cent is a dominant figure within the Hip Hop figure, the fact that he is advertising for Reebok shows the viewers that Reebok only handles with the best of the best, incentivising the viewers to buy Rebook. The lighting along  with the pose shows the front side of his face only. With the colour palette chosen, it gives 50 Cent an ominous but authoritative feeling. There are three significant variations of typography within the frame , one being the companies logo at the very bottom, one is in the middle, the writing says "I am what I am" this could mean two things. One, it is promoting the ideology that you should be proud of what you

Textual Analysis

Image
1) What type of text is it? The text is a print from the cover page of Empire Magazine. It can also be viewed online. 2) How do you know? What are the key conventions that allowed you to identify the text? You can tell that this from the cover page of a magazine due to a few things. First, the magazine's slogan is in a large pink font displayed evidently in the middle of the cover.  Second, The figures on the cover page are from the movie Guardians of the Galaxy 2, this shows that main focus/article will be about the movie. Typically a newspaper would not dedicate a whole cover page to a feature film, however, an entertainment magazine could do so. Third, the figures are gazing at the reader, this creates a welcoming feeling between the reader and the people, this is a key convention of magazines. 3) In your opinion, who is the target audience for this media text? I believe that the cover is targeted towards 16-35 year-olds who are fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
