Year 12 Media exam: Learner response

1) Type up your feedback in full (you do not need to write mark/grade if you do not wish to).

Grade B
2) Read the mark scheme for this exam carefully, paying particular attention to the 'indicative content' for each question. Identify ONE point you could have added for the first three questions in Section A:

Q1 additional point/theory:
Todorov: disequilibrium of danger/battle; male hero tries to restore new equilibrium.

Q2 additional point/theory/CSP reference:

Bell boy characters reflects change in culture and society – traditionally masculine

role/appearance but ends advert in purple jacket putting on mascara.

Q3 additional point/theory/CSP reference:

Black Lives Matter movement – referenced in lyrics.

3) Section B requires you to write extended essays with 35 minutes and 5-7 well-developed paragraphs per question (excluding introduction and conclusion). Count the number of paragraphs you wrote for each question in Section B excluding your introduction/conclusion:

Q6 number of paragraphs:

3 (very long) paragraphs

Q7 number of paragraphs:

4 paragraphs

4) Question 6 (TV industry) was arguably the hardest question on the exam. Write a new paragraph that answers the question referring to either Capital or Deutschland 83 and the global TV industry. Use the indicative content in the mark scheme to help you.

Deutschland 83 was a perfect example of a show designed for an international audience due to multiple reasons; firstly, the show is a German produced, American funded show that did better in an international audience than a national one, the reasons as to why Deutschland 83 did better with international audiences rather than maybe the fact that the nostalgic representations within the show (80's pastiche and references) was more American and British than German (American and British classic 80's songs rather than German)

5) Question 7 was a synoptic question that rewarded your ability to cover all four key concepts of Media. Write a new paragraph for this essay using the indicative content in the mark scheme to help you.

Men's Health has managed to adapt with the continuous changing ideology of masculinity while also being able to still keep qualities of hypermasculinity e.g. while MH's cover has fiver cover lines that emphasize men to diet and keep extra care of their weight and health (something that would have been uncommon in the past) while still managing to make it seem masculine through the use of hypermasculine wording e.g. "slay", "demolish".
